Vyca Cowan, 101, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, in California.
Vyca was born on June 5, 1912, in Putnam County in Missouri to George and Burdell (Martz) McHenry. She married Noah Cowan in Kirksville, Mo. in 1933. They lived there for several years before moving to a farm in Putnam County.
She attended Northeast Missouri State (now Truman State) and earned two degrees, Bachelors and Masters. She taught in Putnam County Rural Schools and in the North Kansas City School District. She was a long time member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and when they moved back to Putnam County, she became a member of the Centerville SDA Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her only child, Diana, and husband Jim Brown.
Funeral Services will be held at the Playle-Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, Mo. on Friday, April 11, at 1p.m. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.
