John M. Bonel, 71, of Frederick, Colorado, passed away after a long battle with lymphoma on April 1, 2014. He was raised in Rathbun and became a standout golfer at Centerville High School. After graduation, he moved to the Chicago area where he dated and later married his childhood friend Evelyn Todey.
He moved back to Centerville to work and start a family. John later moved the family to Des Moines, where he became an icon in the adult beverage industry for many years. After retirement, John moved to Frederick, Colo., to spoil his grandsons and attend their soccer games.
John is survived by his wife of almost fifty years, Evelyn, son Randy (Sandra) of Lafayette, Colo., and two grandsons, Hunter and Silas. He was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Anna (Morris) Bonel, and infant children Angela and Vincent.
John lived his life like he hit the golf ball- straight and true. His unyielding candor and outgoing personality gained him many lifelong friendships.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Frederick, Colo.
