Shane (Sam) Edward Bills

Shane (Sam) Edward Bills, 59, of Mystic, entered into eternal life on Sunday morning, Oct. 13, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

He was born Jan. 22, 1954 in Des Moines, the son of Edward “Nip” and Shirley (Seals) Bills. Sam was raised in Des Moines. He was united in marriage to Connie Pollock on June 3, 1972 in Des Moines. He spent many years driving for the Yellow Cab Company. Sam later moved to Mystic to help operate the family business, The Mystic Auction House, where he and his brothers auctioneered. When the family business closed, Sam found himself auctioneering at Highway Five Auction, owned and operated by his good friends, Rob and Nedra Mudra.

Sam enjoyed gambling, playing cards, as well as calling for bingo. He often called bingo for the Mystic American Legion. Due to health issues, Sam was unable to auction or call bingo the last few years but he continued to attend auctions in order to buy and resell auction items. Sam enjoyed numerous other hobbies in his free time, including fishing with his kids and grandchildren, as well as camping with both family and friends. Most importantly, he cherished the time he spent with his friends and family, especially the grandchildren.

Sam is survived by his wife, Connie Bills of Mystic; sons, Jason “Bob” Bills of Des Moines and Travis Bills of Centerville; a daughter, Jill Jones of Plano; grandchildren, Payton Bills of Des Moines, Noelle Bills of Centerville and Nathan Jones of Plano; brothers, Walter Bills of Mystic, Mark (Marcia) Bills of Centerville, Dan “Boon” (Becky) Bills of Mystic; sisters-in-law, Gaylene (Bill) Rick of Des Moines and Vickie Salsberry of Centerville; a brother-in-law, Marty Northway of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward “Nip” and Shirley Bills; a sister-in-law, Judy Hayes; and a brother-in-law, Gary Bills.
