Sammy J. Belloma, 85, of Centerville, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.
Sammy grew up in Centerville and attended Centerville Schools. He married Margaret Busetto on March 18, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centerville.
He spent many years employed in the construction field. Sammy also handled fresh produce for much of his life and enjoyed making fruit baskets at Christmas time.
Sammy had a passion for fishing, especially channel catfish. Furthermore, he was known throughout the community for selling worms and other fishing bait. Sammy also took pride in caring for his vegetable garden. In his free time he loved cheering on his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed going to McDonalds every morning for coffee. Most importantly, Sammy loved his family and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centerville.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Belloma of Centerville; three children, Frances (Gary) Swanson of Osceola, Sammy Belloma (Sherry Henshaw) of Centerville and Anthony Belloma of Centerville; 11 grandchildren, Kim Swanson (Chuck Coffman) of Exline, Sean (Amy) Swanson of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Jennifer (Brandon) Knapp of Centerville, Amy Barker (Lonnie Rumley) of Osceola, Rechelle (Geary) Phillips of Osceola, Belinda (Ryan) Sweeney of Osceola, Britany Belloma (Justin) of Fairbury, Ill., Pam (Kevin) Stapelton of Springfield, Ill., Dayton Belloma of Centerville, Tara Wray of Centerville, Jeremy (Missy) Belloma of Plano and Scott (Emily) Belloma of Urbandale; 15 great-grandchildren, Nick, Justin and Kaylee Knapp of Centerville, Dylan Dalton and Maddie Sweeney of Osceola, Austin Phillips of Osceola, Lauren Barker of Osceola, Damian and Savannah Swanson of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Allie and Colby Belloma of Centerville, Riley Fisher of Centerville, Lexi Wray of Centerville and Luke and Jayden Maffett of Fairbury, Ill.; great-great-granddaughter, Isabelle, due in December; two brothers, Joe Belloma of Centerville and Don (Betty) Belloma of Waterloo; and a sister, Ann Greene of Centerville.
