Bernice 'Bunny' Shaw

SARASOTA, Fla. — Bernice "Bunny" Shaw, 92, of Sarasota, Fla., and a former resident of Rock Island, Ill. and Davenport, died peacefully with the loving attention of her daughter, Judith and Katie Balog Fisch, her devoted caretaker on Friday, Jan. 4 2013 in Sarasota, Fla.

She was born the daughter of Frank and Emily (Van Pratt) Sutterman on June 29, 1920 in Rock Island, Ill. She graduated from the Rock Island High School in 1938 and later would graduate from AIC Business School in Davenport. During WWII she worked at the Almond Factory in Sacramento, Calif. and held numerous office positions in the Quad Cities in Iowa and Illinois.

In 1943, she was united in marriage to John F.X. Scott in Davenport. On Nov.  24, 1980, she was united in marriage to Everett J. Shaw in Galveston, Texas. Later, they would move to LaFeria, Texas before moving to Venice, Fla. in 2000. She was a woman of good humor who loved her extended family and was loyal to her many friends. She will remain with us all our lives because of her influence on our lives and the love she showed us.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, John F.X. Scott in 1986 and husband, Everett J. Shaw on March 21, 2006; a grandson, Brian Scott Sargent in 1996 and a son-in-law, Donald J. Sargent in 1996.

She is survived by her only child, Judith Scott Sargent of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Lillian (Mrs. Francis) Welvaert of Geneseo, Ill.; her much loved grandson, Matthew Scott Sargent and his wife, Carie of Tampa, Fla.;  great-grandchildren,  John Scott Sargent and Samantha Scott Sargent of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Karen Shaw Stotz and her husband, Dean of Pleasant Valley; step-grandchildren, Curt Jones of Houston, Texas, Mike Jones of Peoria, Ill. and Laura Jones Miller of Columbus, Ohio.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville.
