CENTERVILLE — Betty A. Dafflitto, 94, of Newton, died on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Memorials to the donor’s choice may be left at the funeral home.

Betty, the daughter of George C. and Edith (Stickler) Sayres, was born Dec. 28, 1917 in Cincinnati. She graduated from Cincinnati High School in 1934. Betty then graduated from Ellsworth Junior College in 1936 and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher’s College in the summer of 1936. In the summer of 1939, she attended Drake University to further her education in teaching. Betty worked as a teacher from 1936-1944.

Betty was united in marriage with Russell Dafflitto. They made their home in Newton in 1947. Betty was a 75 year member of the PEO Chapter ME and was active in PTA at Washington Grade School.

Those left to honor Betty’s memory are her three sons, Don (Christina) Dafflitto of Barrington, Ill., Ray (Deb) Dafflitto of Urbandale and Jay (Doug Eslinger) Dafflitto of Newton; two grandchildren, Dana (Stacy) Simbro of Newton and Dane (Mary) Dafflitto of Newton; her four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Jerica Dafflitto and Elizabeth and Sean Simbro; a niece, Barbara Sayres and a nephew, Gary Sayres.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; and twin brothers, Gerald and Harold Sayres.
