Mildred Mericle, 92, of Centerville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 at Golden Age Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Centerville.
She was born March 2, 1921 in Centerville, the daughter of Noah and Lula (Cloud) Hayes. Noah Hayes was a coalminer in the Centerville area for much of his life. Mildred married Doyle Mericle Jan. 6, 1943 in Unionville, Mo. To this union three sons were born, Carson, Larry and John. Along with her immediate family, Mildred raised three nieces, Susan, Annie and Theresa. Doyle preceded Mildred in death Nov. 6, 1996.
Mildred was a homemaker most of her adult life while her husband Doyle worked as a carpenter. She was a member of the Dale Church, north of Centerville. She loved cooking and family members have stated that she had “the best potato salad around.” She also enjoyed baking.
Mildred is survived by her son, Carson (Judy) Mericle of Eaton, Colo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Larry and John; her husband Doyle; two sisters, Hazel Hornaday and Doris Clark; and a brother, David Hayes.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday morning at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville.
