---- — Margaret Louise “Nanny” Beechum, 81, a former resident of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at the Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Va.

Funeral Service will be held at 12 p.m. today at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home in Muscatine. Pastor Dan Schoepf will officiate. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Pearl City Chophouse, 215 W. Mississippi Drive.

Margaret was born on Feb. 11, 1933, in Mystic, the daughter of James L. and Eaithel Mae Jones Wright. She married Vernon Beechum and they later divorced.

She attended beauty school and operated Margaret’s Beauty Salon in Muscatine for 20 years. She later retired from HJ Heinz Company.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, cooking, gambling, bingo and traveling. “Nanny” was instrumental in the lives of her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always encouraging them to obtain their education and she was always there to cheer them on at their various activities.

Those left to honor her memory include two sons, Dennis Leon Beechum and wife, Sandy, of Conesville, and James Nathan Beechum and wife, Kathy, of Des Moines; four daughters, Elouise “Elly” Lloyd and fiancé, Michael Simms, of Muscatine, Jacqueline Scroggins of Muscatine, Monte Putney and husband, William, of Newport News, and Deitria Beechum, all of Muscatine; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Peniston of Muscatine; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bennie Hubbert, Sr. of Rock Island, Ill.

She was preceded in death her parents; and two brothers, James Lewis Wright, Jr. and David Eugene Wright.
