---- — Caroll (Earhart) VanDyne, 72, of Centerville, died Sunday, July 28, 2013 in Centerville.

She was born the daughter of Zeph and Mildred (Longley) Earhart. She graduated from Centerville High School, afterwards attending Grace Bible Institute. She later graduated from Indian Hills Community College and Truman State University with a degree in education.

She began working at the Appanoose Telephone Company. Later she worked at Wells, New Focus, and Hower Junior High in Centerville. She was first married to Robert Harbour, then to Gary VanDyne June 28, 2007 in Ottumwa.

Caroll was a dedicated friend to many, a teacher and mother, always giving and caring for everyone around her. She was like a ray of sunshine landing in a garden, warm and sweet, always encouraging everyone around her to reach their full potential. She was always happiest to see her family and students succeed.

Caroll was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Earhart, and her late husband, Gary VanDyne, on June 29, 2013.

She is survived by her father Zeph Earhart, son, Terry Harbour of Eldridge, and granddaughter Madison Carollynn Harbour; a daughter, Debbie Gay and her husband, Bob of Pennsylvania; her brother, Richard Earhart and his wife, Diana of Sun City, Calif.; nephew, Kevin Earhart and his wife, Susan of Nashville, Tenn. and her niece, Kristina (Earhart) Miller and her husband, David of Billings, Mont., along with numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church, in Centerville, with Pastor Robert Pick officiating, assisted by Pastor Dan Dark. Burial will follow at the Mount Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville. Visitation will be held at Schmidt Family Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to Indian Hills Community College, Mount Ararat Cemetery or a memorial of your choice in Caroll’s name. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville has been entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences can be sent to
