Published February 14, 2008 06:15 pm - Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 16, at the Gilbert Funeral Home, Moravia Chapel, with Rev. Gene Kubli officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia.


Lois Jean Caster



Lois Jean Caster, age 75, of Moravia, Iowa died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. She was born June 2, 1932 in Appanoose County, Iowa to Walter and Margery (Stock­er) Scott.

On September 29, 1956 she married Luther Caster in Unionville, Missouri.

She attended rural school at Maple Grove and was a graduate of Moravia High School, class of 1950. She was a homemaker. Her and Luther had lived in Monroe, Iowa for 40 years, where she had worked for Dawson’s Café, Moss’ Variety Store and especially enjoyed working with the high school students as a teacher’s aid. Lois enjoyed baking wedding and birthday cakes for friends and relatives. She returned to Moravia with her husband in 1996 where she was active in the Garden Club and the Moravia Area Historical Society.

Lois is survived by her husband Luther of Moravia; 3 daughters, Pam Cyrene of Ipswich, Mass., Mary (Warren) Vander Leest of Sully, Iowa, and Jo (John) Wynn of Charlestown, WV; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Jack Scott, Walter (Margaret) Scott, Jr. and Bill (Anne) Scott all of Moravia; and three sisters, Maxine Ewing of Centerville, Charlotte (Ron) Tissue of Moravia and Sondra (David) Scott of Albia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Bobby Lee Scott in infancy.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 16, at the Gilbert Funeral Home, Moravia Chapel, with Rev. Gene Kubli officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia.

Visitation will be open to the public starting at noon on Saturday, February 16, at the Moravia Chapel, with the family present until the time of the service.

Memorials may be made to Moravia Historical Soc­iety.
