John W. Whitey Henderson
John W. (Whitey) Henderson, 84, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at his home in Centerville.
John was born to John and Elvia (Richmond) Henderson on May 28, 1923 in Cincinnati.
He married Ethel Hatfield on July 13, 1949 in Moulton. John was employed by the Monarch Cement Company in Des Moines for 30 years before retiring in 1984. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, singing, riding his motorcycles and watching western shows.
John is survived by his wife Ethel; daughter, Vivian Clark (Dave) of Centerville, son, John W. Henderson Jr. (Cathy) of Minbourn; four grandchildren, Rev. David Kaster Jr. (Chris) of Fairport, Mo., Denise Kaster of King City, Mo., John Thomas Henderson and Karen Henderson, both of Minbourn, and two great- granddaughters; Missy and Meggan Kaster of Fairport, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; Rod, Don, Cecil and Clifton Skip Henderson and three sisters, Marie Laurson, Bernice Blair and Roseanna Parker.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4, at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating.
Visitation will be all day today, Thursday, at the funeral home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment with military rites will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa, which may be left at or mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, 23548 Hwy 5, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
