Approximately 100 tractors are expected to cruise into Centerville on Sunday, June 17 for the first evening of the 2nd Annual Tractor Ride Across Iowa sponsored by Valu-Bilt Tractor Parts.

The ride begins at Valu-Bilt's home in Indianola, travels south to Centerville, then north into Minnesota before returning south to complete the ride in Indianola on June 23.

There will be a barbeque on the Square for the riders at 6 p.m. on Sunday night. The public is invited to visit with the riders and view the tractors. After the tractor ride participants have been served, the public is invited to join in the meal which will include the famous slow-roasted beef prepared by the Appanoose County Cattlemen, potatoes, salad, green beans and a drink for $8. Proceeds from the evening will be used for the 2007 Pancake Day.

The Double Barrel band will provide musical entertainment from the Bandshell.

Besides Centerville, other Iowa stops include Chariton, Rathbun Lake, Melrose, Lovilia, Lake Red Rock, Pella, Marshalltown, Eldora, Mason City, Osage, Charles City, Newton and Monroe. Minnesota stops include Lyle and Austin.

The Appanoose County Tourism Committee, which administers the funds collected through the hotel-motel tax in Centerville and the unincorporated areas of Appanoose County, is targeting events such as the tractor ride which attract people from outside the area for visits.
