OTTUMWA — As part of this weekend’s 70th anniversary celebration of D-Day, the Indian Hills Community College Library will present a free film, “Ike: Countdown to D-Day,” at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 7 in the library on the Ottumwa campus.

The D-Day invasion was the largest military operation of World War II and the beginning of the end. It also marked Dwight “Ike” Eisenhower as one of America’s most powerful military leaders. “Ike; Countdown to D-Day” depicts the 90 terrifying days leading up to the invasion as Eisenhower decides the fates of thousands of soldiers while managing complex strategic relationships with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, American Gen. George S. Patton, Britain’s Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery and French President Charles de Gaulle. It was a time of no guarantees and certainly no second chances. In this climate, Eisenhower pulled the world’s leaders together for one of history’s most infamous battles. The film stars Tom Selleck as Eisenhower, James Remar as Bradley, Ian Mune as Churchill, Bruce Phillips as Montgomery, Gerald McRaney as Patton and George Shevtsov as de Gaulle.

Free popcorn will be available during the movie.

In addition, the Indian Hills Library will feature a display of WWII artifacts, pictures, books, videos, uniforms, etc. through the month of June.

The Indian Hills Library will also host a free slide show, featuring 70 World War II photographs, and reception from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, in the library prior to the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra’s Music on the Green. The Indian Hills Office of Veterans Affairs will provide the refreshments

The Ottumwa Symphony’s “Music on the Green” will feature a USO-style show on the Marge Dodd Outdoor Stage on the IHCC Ottumwa campus. The free concert will begin at 7 p.m.
