Appanoose County is one of 12 communities that is a finalist in the Iowa Great Places competition.

If Appanoose County is selected, as much as $700,000 could be received for projects now in progress.

Also, our county would receive preferential treatment when working with all the state departments. The Great Places Board is visiting each of the 12 communities before it makes a final decision.

The board members will be in Appanoose County Wednesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. They will be making a tour of the county; starting at the Honey Creek Resort Park, visiting the site of the Lighthouse and traveling south on Highway 5 to Centerville. They will tour Centerville emphasizing the recreation and trail sites and end up on the Square.

The Centerville High School Band will play for them in the Courthouse Band Shell as they enter the Square.

The group will end up at the Ritz Theatre before leaving town. The local committee hopes that everyone possible willl be on the Square at 5 p.m. Wednesday, either shopping or attending the concert.

The local committee is made up of Jim Armstrong, Bill Buss, Joyce Bieber, Bill Duey, Greg Fenton, Dora Guffey, Justine Heffron, Mark Hoffman, Linda Howard, Bette Howell, Fred Jenkins, Rollie Reznicek, and Lottie Wilson.

All the members believe that we have a real shot at this award, but one of the key factors is community support. It is hoped that many people will come out to greet the Great Places Board.
