The Appanoose County Community Fund (ACCF) is now accepting completed applications for grant funds that will be awarded to qualified organizations in Appanoose County. Grant applications can also be obtained online at and clicking “Philanthropy.”

Groups must meet a certain designation to qualify. Funding must be allocated for eligible non-profits or local government-sponsored projects. The committee has approximately $45,000 to be awarded to successful applicants. Half of the available amount will be awarded and distributed each grant period. The most any applicant will receive at any one time is $5,000. The committee may choose to award less than the amount requested by an applicant.

There will be two opportunities to apply for funding in 2006. The first round of applications must be completed and in the hands of the fund office by 3 p.m. on April 7. The second round will come in the fall and completed applications must be submitted by October 6.

The ACCF committee members will review the applications. The committee members are from different areas of the county and have various backgrounds. ACCF committee members are as follows:

Delores Burkland - Moravia

Richard Gorden - Plano

David Howe - Moravia

Jean Morrison - Cincinnati

Bob Pontious - Centerville

“This is the first year for the Appanoose County Community Fund,” said David Howe, ACCF chair. “As we mature the Committee will seek additional funds in the form of gifts or bequeaths. Successful fund raising efforts will result in the committee’s ability to award additional funds to qualified organizations and groups in Appanoose County. Please keep the Appanoose County Community Fund in mind if you know of someone wishing to make a donation that will benefit all of Appanoose County.”
