Community 1st Credit Union hires branch manager for new Chariton branch

Community 1st Credit Union  announces the hiring of Karen Wilker as the branch manager for C1st’s Chariton branch, one of two new Community 1st branches set to open in June 2011.  

Wilker most recently worked at Lucas County Health Center as public relations and marketing director. She has also worked for Chariton newspapers as editor in chief.

“We are very pleased Karen is joining our Community 1st team. She brings excellent organizational, management and interpersonal skills to the position of branch manager for our new Chariton branch set to open in June,” Terry Maloy, CEO/president said. “She will play a key role in the continued growth of C1st.”

Wilker brings with her an extensive background of upper management and supervisory experience, as well as development and implementation of strategic marketing and promotional initiatives including creation and implementation of external and internal communications.

Wilker is involved in the Chariton community and is passionate about improving the quality of life in Chariton, which she calls her “adopted hometown.”  Her volunteer involvement includes: the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, 4-H, FFA, Chariton Sportsbackers, RAGBRAI, Northridge Living Center, First Lutheran Church and the Chariton After Prom Committee. She is a member of the Chariton Chamber of Commerce and works to promote economic development and serves on Chamber’s tourism and community betterment divisions. Wilker has also served on the Chamber Executive and Foundation boards.

Wilker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Services Administration from Upper Iowa University in Fayette and an Associate of Arts degree from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.

Wilker and her husband Fred, currently resides in Russell. She has two grown children, Ben Wilker of Davenport and Emily Wilker, of Cedar Falls.

• Two new branches will open in Chariton, and at Venture Drive located in the Ottumwa Walmart Supercenter in June 2011.
