The Forbes sisters, Glora Belle Forbes Jamison and Jo Ann Forbes Cannon, recently visited Evelyn Bear and her siblings, Alice Hixenbaugh and Zeph Earhart here in Centerville. The Forbes sister’s grandfather, Bill (or W. H). Forbes, was a brother to Evelyn, Alice, and Zeph’s grandmother, Eva Forbes Earhart.

John Wesley Forbes came to Putnam County, Missouri with his parents, David Forbes, Jr. and Martha Richardson Forbes in the early 1850’s. He married Martha Speak in 1855 and they had eight children – four boys and four girls. They were Sarah Hayes Parcel, David Sellers Forbes, Hannah Helms Grandstaff McClure, Permelia Evaline Earhart, Mary Frances Durbin, Hugh Forbes, William Henry Forbes, and Spessard George Forbes. Sarah, Hannah, and Hugh lived in Appanoose County, Iowa as well as many of the descendants.

Glora Belle is writing a Forbes family history and has been interviewing cousins to collect family stories. Sherwin Jamison, Glora Belle’s husband, brought his lap-top computer and scanner so they could copy old photographs to go with the family stories. It is wonderful to have the technology we have today to digitize old pictures. Glora Belle would like to identify, copy, and preserve the old family pictures while her older cousins, who can identify the individuals in them, are still living. Some of the other cousins they visited were Bonnie Minear Butler, Milton Forbes, Donna Oakley, Nancy Sackett, and Anita Jackson.

Glora Belle would be glad to exchange information with other cousins. Her address is 2002 S. 2590 West, Syracuse, Utah 84075, her e-mail address is:
