It’s time for the July 4 edition. There is much to tell.

Make sure you register for the By the Dawns Early Light 5K run /1.5 mile walk that begins and ends at the Exline Country Store. Hurry registration ends July 1. Pick up forms at the store. Everyone will get a t-shirt and drinks/snacks as well. I unfortunately will not be running or walking because I would like to stay on this earth for awhile longer. Good luck everyone. If you need more info, contact Tina Bauman at (641) 895-0423.

Just like every year, there will be a pie contest held at the Exline Community Center on July 4. There are 2two classes – Soft Pie and Double Crust. Pies must be at center no later than 10:30 a.m. the contest begins at 11 a.m. Grand prize is $100 and an apron. Reserve is $50 and an apron. There will also be a first and second champion in both classes, $25 for first and $15 for second. If you have any questions, call Maryann Hurley at (641) 895-7747 or (641) 658-2691. Pies will be sold after the contest is over.

This year Maryann will also be having a free pie making class Wednesday and Thursday at the center so make sure to attend so you can hit the Jackpot of cake maker dough.

Like every year the Cakewalk will be held at the Community center beginning at 1 p.m. Come and join the fun. It’s always a blast. They still need any cakes you candonate, nothing special just any cake you can make is welcome.

Come down and see all the new changes done at our city park. There is a beautiful new gazebo that was just built, the basketball court is finished and ready for games and the playground will be done by July 4.

The time for family visits and trips away is upon us. Maryann Hurley, her son and grandson went on a fishing trip on the Missouri River and caught 30 catfish, then returned to the area so Ethan could spend some time with family.

Jeremy and Kayla Carlsten along with Kayla’s brother Matt came down to spend the weekend camping recently at Rathbun Lake and despite the huge amount of rain that fell, had a great time at the lake cooking a special dinner for the folks (inside our house) and visiting with local friends.

Mike Leach is getting along well after his accident. He’s bruised and sore but he will be up and running in no time and Angel is getting along well after a poisonous spider bite.

Well folks here is all the special stuff the community is doing for July 4 and be sure to look for ads and fliers for all the events being held including fireworks, flea market, gas engines show and contests at the Exline Store.
