Two in Corydon arrested on meth, firearm charges

CENTERVILLE — On Thursday, Jan. 31 the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jason Matthew Stapleton, 43 and Josy Delanie Stapleton, 30 of Corydon, following the execution of a search warrant at their residence located at 1548 128th St. in Wayne County. according to a press release issued by the Wayne County Sheriff's office.

During the execution of the search warrant law enforcement located items conducive to the illegal distribution and sale of methamphetamine to include the following: approximately three ounces of methamphetamine, packaging materials, digital scales, firearms, ammunition and items of drug paraphernalia.

Jason Stapleton was arrested and charged with the following crimes in connection to the investigation: possession with the intent to deliver more than five grams of a schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine, while in the immediate possession of a firearm, a class B felony; failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D felony; five counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, each being a class D felony; three counts of child endangerment, each being a class D felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

Josy Stapleton was arrested and charged with the following crimes: possession with the intent to deliver more than five grams of a schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine, while in the immediate possession of a firearm, a class B felony; failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D felony; five counts of aiding and abetting a convicted felon to possess firearms, each being a class D felony; three counts of child endangerment, each being a class D felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

Assisting the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in this investigation were the South Central Iowa Drug Task Force, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office, the Centerville Police Department, the Corydon Police Department and the Wayne County Attorney’s Office.  

Jason and Josy Stapleton are both being held in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond for each.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
