---- — The Centerville City Council will have at least one new member following the election in November. And the possibility exists there could be two new members.
What is certain is there will be a new at-large councilman with a four-year term. Walter E. Buban, Ronald Creagan and Kendale Schwering all filed to assume the council seat currently held by Darrin D. Hamilton.
Hamilton decided to not seek the at-large council seat but filed to run for the Ward 2 council seat as has Jay Rogers. Edwin Brand is the current councilman for Ward 2.
Brand filed to challenge sitting councilman Jennings Dillard who was appointed to the at-large seat Randy Marcussen vacated when he resigned. Dillard filed to retain the council seat he was appointed to. The winner will be elected to a two-year term to satisfy Marcussen’s term.
What is straight forward is only Jan Spurgeon filed to run for Centerville mayor, which is a two-year term. Spurgeon has been the city’s mayor following the death of Jim Senior and subsequent council appointment.
The deadline to file to run for city office was 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19.
Not on the ballot this November are the seats in Ward 1 held by Richard Smith and Ward 3 held by Rob Lind. Those two terms expire Jan. 1, 2016 and will be on the November 2015 ballot.
