CENTERVILLE — It’s that time of year yet again. Just as Centerville wraps up with Saturday’s annual celebration on the historic Centerville square, the Centerville School District begins celebrating homecoming as only Centerville can.

Activities for the 2013 CHS Homecoming Week kicked off yesterday as classes painted windows on the square, high school students played dodgeball and held a chili feed at Lakeview.

This week, CHS will be holding several events each day. Throughout the week, students can donate pop cans and pop tabs in addition to daily dress-up days.

There are also class competitions throughout the week that send students from each class through different competitions with an overall class champion being announced at Pep Chapel.

On Wednesday, students will view a pre-recorded Silent Library competition, based on the T.V. show, and then participate in the crazy country obstacle course, car cram and the tug of war.

The elementary schools will have pep assemblies on Thursday leading to spirit night, which will be held Thursday night starting at 5:30 p.m. at Lakeview.

The CHS Band Boosters will be selling pork loin sandwiches or beef hot dogs, along with chips, dessert and a water for $5 at spirit night.

Also on Thursday is ironman volleyball, starting at 6 p.m., and the powderpuff football game closing out the evening. Powderpuff begins after the junior high games and the rest of the Spirit Night festivities have concluded.

On Friday, Pep Chapel will be held at the Simon Estes Auditorium. The program is set to begin at 1 p.m. with a cake/punch reception being held in the gym afterwards. Those who can’t make it to the auditorium for Pep Chapel can watch it live online at www.dailyiowegian.com/live.

Centerville will then host Ft. Madison Friday night for the homecoming game. The freshman game starts first at 5 p.m. with the varsity game starting no earlier than 7:30 p.m.

Each day, the students will participate in various dress-up days. Monday is “Muck boot/Farmer Day,” Tuesday is “Farm Animal Day,” Wednesday is “Homecoming T-shirt/button/camo day,” Thursday is “Class Color Day” and Friday is “Scarlet and Black day.” For Thursday’s dress up days, the freshman class should wear blue, sophomores should wear green, juniors should wear purple and seniors should wear yellow. The staff will dress up in black. The week is capped off with the homecoming dance from 8-11 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville. The cost to enter is $5 each.
