---- — The city of Centerville would like to invite all military veterans to be present for the dedication of the Appanoose County Freedom Rock, located on the south east corner of the courthouse lawn, at 2:30 p.m. on Pancake Day. The Appanoose County Freedom Rock was painted in August by artist Ray “Bubba” Sorenson. On the front side of the rock, Brigadier Gen. Francis Drake, a Centerville native, is featured along with the first USS Iowa. The back side of the rock features a soldier hugging his daughter upon returning from military duty. A Centerville street scape is featured in the background. The 17,740 pound rock also includes images of an American Flag, seals of the five military branches and a gold star signifying a soldier killed in action. The Appanoose County rock was funded through the Appanoose County Tourism Committee.
