---- — The quiet roar or a better choice of words, the quiet hum of Gold Wing motorcycles will be heard Sept. 27-28 at the Honey Creek Resort near Moravia and throughout Appanoose County as this year’s Gold Wing Riders Association annual convention and rally is held.

This convention will give the riders of Honda Gold Wings and other motorcycles the opportunity to tour the beautiful area, attend motorcycle safety seminars as well as purchase tickets for raffle items. The proceeds from the raffle items and the donations from local businesses help the Iowa District Gold Wing Road Riders Association educate the motoring public (non-riders) as well as riders of motorcycles.

As a preview of the event and to allow the residents of the area to mark your calendars with the event schedule, Friday evening we will be at the Manhattan Steak House south of Centerville for our evening meal. At approximately 7 p.m. we will be traveling through town via Highway 5 to the Continental at St. Josephs Assisted Living Facility for a light show. The residents will be asked to judge the lighted bike/trike they feel is the best. We will award a plaque to that bike on Saturday evening at our closing ceremonies. All members of the public are invited to the Continental at St. Josephs to view the light show and visit with members of the association.

On Saturday morning at 7 a.m. riders will select the Iowa District Couple and Individual of the Year for 2013-2014. This selection will be held at the Lodge at Honey Creek Resort. The remainder of the day on Saturday will give our attendees an opportunity to ride and enjoy the beautiful area in and around Centerville. Riders will return to the Pavilion at Honey Creek Resort around 4 p.m. for closing ceremonies and the drawing of the great raffle items that have been donated. The public can also stop by the pavilion from 3-5 p.m. to visit with any members of the association that are on hand.

As members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association 51 percent of what we do is education. We present seminars at civic organizations around the state, enter parades, conduct motorcycle safety courses and visit with the general public to name a few opportunities we have to educate.
