OTTUMWA — Dozens of Iowa artists create a great reason to check-out Ottumwa’s annual art festival, Walk on Art Street, on Saturday, Aug. 31. In fact, a pair of artists represents some hometown talent.
Two Centerville artists, Mary Beth Heikes with her watercolors and Carolyn Jenkins with her oils and pencils, will be exhibiting and selling their work at the sixth-annual art festival. However, that is just a sampling of the diverse body of work which also includes fiber, photography, hand paint, silk, glass, paper, jewelry, stoneware, acrylic, drawings, mixed media, leather and gourds. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. on Third Street adjacent to the city’s Central Park.
Children’s activities including a tissue-paper sculpture, mask making, sidewalk chalk, face painting and many others.
Event entertainment will include the Celtic band Hieland Storm, West African drumming by Fonsiba Drums!, belly dancing, ice sculpturing and a performance by the cast of “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” Refreshments will also be available for purchase.
In case of inclement weather, the event will move a short distance to the Ottumwa High School cafeteria at 501 E. Second St.
