The Drake Public Library welcomed guests and their K9 companions for the third time since last year during Saturday’s Doggie Day. Several dogs interacted with patrons in the bottom level of the library from 12:30-2 p.m.
Librarian JeNel Barth said the idea came from the library in her husband’s hometown and that it has been a real success since being introduced in 2013. The event was casual and included time to interact with and pet the dogs as well as Barth reading a book aloud to the group.
Barth said it is a nice event for children and adults who don’t own pets or get to interact with them that often as well as for the dogs.
According to Barth dog owners interested in bringing their pet to another event should contact the library. The dogs need to be socialized to be around groups of people and children said Barth.
