Tony Kury, of Centerville, the winner of the Betterment Or Bust-sponsored grocery grab at Fareway, had his daughter do the shopping.
Megan Wulff, 27, of Centerville, at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday before the store opened, used multiple shopping carts placed strategically to make the best use of her 2 1/2 minute shopping spree.
Wulff’s shopping strategy: Go for the items she and Kury would normally purchase when they shop at Fareway.
The strategy apparently worked. After all the items she placed in shopping carts were scanned, the bill came to $455.68.
The rules were pretty simple. The retail value couldn’t exceed $500 and no more than two of any like kind items.
Keith Voss, Centerville Fareway manager, said they would reduce the total grocery bill by 15 percent.
Centerville Mayor Jim Senior, a BOB group member, said they sold nearly $1,100 in tickets for the shopping spree. After paying for the groceries, BOB was left with approximately $700.
Senior said the money left over will go toward flags for the Levee, VFW Depot repairs and Levee beautification.
