DES MOINES — Participants combined ingredients to create unique dishes in the Mystery Sack competition judged Saturday at the 2013 Iowa State Fair. Wyatt Tait, of Exline, took second place in the Kids (10 to 15 Years Old) division.
Competitors were given 30 minutes to prepare a dish with the ingredients provided. Entries were judged on taste and use of products.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.

Top honors to Gerths
DES MOINES — Hunter Gerths of Albia won the Grand Champion banner in the Jackpot Lamb show Sunday at the 2013 Iowa State Fair.
In Purebred Hampshire Cody Wynn, of Albia, took first and Prater Club Lambs, of Moravia, took seventh. In Purebred Suffolk Prater Club Lambs, of Moravia, Little Mo, took fourth. In Crossbred Black Face 107.5-126 Prater Club Lambs, of Moravia, Burch, took fifth. In Crossbred Black Face 127-142 Hunter Gerths, of Albia, took first and Prater Club Lambs, of Moravia, took fifth. In Crossbred Speckled Face Halle Hindman, of Albia, took second.
