---- — OTTUMWA — Bridge City Explosion, Indian Hills Community College’ show choir, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, in St. John Auditorium. The free performance is open to the public.
Director Diana Upton-Hill said selections to be performed range from the romantic to the erratic as the group will feature songs from Broadway and Off-Broadway. However, she added that they may not be the songs most would expect.
The songs to be performed will include “Beautiful City” from “Godspell,” “21 Guns” from “American Idiot” and “The Wizard and I” from “Wicked” as well as many other unexpected songs from the stage. Upton-Hill said there will be featured solo numbers, as well as small group and full-group performances.
Members of the Bridge City Explosion include: Albia: Sara Beary and Nicholas West; Bloomfield: Ashley Johnson; Fairfield: Brittany Anderson; Mount Pleasant: Tonie Silva; Moravia: Julia Beall; New York, N.Y.: Karen Piris; Ottumwa: Edward Bartow and Aaryn Frazier; Packwood: Niccole Giberson; The Bottom, Caribbean Netherlands: Shanell Heyliger; and West Des Moines: Arlina Miller.
The three-person ensemble that provides the accompaniment for the show choir includes IHCC professor Emily Wolf on piano; Nathan Maughan, Albia, on bass guitar; and Jay Stookesberry, Milton, on keyboard.
