A homecoming banquet for the Centerville High School classes celebrating their 60th reunion or more will once again be held at the Continental Hotel on the Square. The banquet will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 with a meet up at 4 p.m. and the meal at 5:30 p.m.
The banquet was first organized five years ago by the class of 1946. They have organized the meet up every year since then as well. According to the organizers, after this year, they are looking for another class to take over the duties of putting on the banquet.
One of the organizers, Elahvonne Wright, said that people look forward to the banquet each year and really enjoy the get together. There were 87 attendees the first year and that number has increased every year.
For this year’s banquet there are already registrations from across the country, including Arizona and California.
The oldest class with members registered to be present is currently the class of 1937 celebrating their 76th reunion.
Members of the class of 1953 and above may still register to attend the banquet by Sept. 18.
The cost of a reservation is $14.50 per person, which includes tax and tip for the meal.
The entree this year will a choice of either glazed chicken or ham steak.
Checks may be made payable to the class of 1946 and sent to Elahvonne Wright, 1477 South Shore Drive, Knoxville, IA 50318.
