---- — DES MOINES — A traditional shortening was the featured ingredient in the Make It with Lard competition judged Wednesday at the 2013 Iowa State Fair.
In the Desserts division, Molly Thomas, of Centerville, took second in Drop Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip Cookies and Cookies Other Than Named. In the Quick Breads division, Thomas took first in Zucchini Bread and Fruit Bread.
Entries were judged on taste, flavor, texture, appearance and use of lard.
