---- — The Centerville FFA Chapter attended the 86th Iowa FFA Leadership Conference April 27-29 in Ames. This year’s conference theme was ignite (LEADERSHIP, GROWTH, SUCCESS).

The Centerville FFA members attending were: Jake Hengstenberg, Melissa Chapman, Troy Cassidy, Hannah Sales, Erissa McGill, Bailee Cox, Malinda Rupalo, Arianna Litke, Trey McCoy, Kirsten Brauman, Katie Morris, Brett Bauman, Ty Stewart, Noah Coatney, Maranda Rupalo and Branson Bachman. Chaperones were advisor Elizebeth Gaskins and parents Tracy Morris, Karla Rupalo and Jodie McCoy. Greg Fisher, activities director, also attended the officer induction on Tuesday.

While at the conference, the Centerville FFA members participated in packing Meals from the Heartland to help fight hunger. More than 1,600 FFA members packaged more than 250,000 rice-soy meals to help families in Iowa and abroad.

Members also took advantage of opportunities to attend the Ag Career Fair, NADC tour, Wildlife Care Clinic tour, ISU Greenhouse tour and Reiman Garden tour.

The Centerville FFA Chapter received the following awards/recognition:

• Trey McCoy accepted the Ambassador Award on behalf of the Centerville Chapter. The Ambassador award is given to chapters that raise money for the Iowa FFA Foundation.

• Maranda Rupalo accepted the Community Development Award (Environmental Division) for our chapter’s dedication to making our community a better place to live and work.

• The Iowa FFA Degree was presented to Katie Morris. The Iowa FFA Degree is the highest rank that can be conferred upon active members by the Iowa FFA Association.

• A bronze rating was awarded to the chapter for their chapter display prepared by Katie Morris.

• Melissa Chapman, Troy Cassidy, Hannah Sales and Erissa McGill served on the State Courtesy Corps. The Courtesy Corps was led by FFA Alumni Member Shaniel Smith.

• Noah Coatney and Brett Bauman participated in State FFA Choir and Kirsten Brauman participated in State FFA Band.

• Bailee Cox and Malinda Rupalo participated in the Greenhand Quiz and both received a bronze rating.

• Hunter Moore was elected the South Central FFA state vice president.
