Councilman Chris Chester offered his resignation during the Mystic City Council meeting on Thursday, April 10 and it was accepted. The council at the same meeting nominated Carl Clark to fill the vacant position which was approved and he was sworn in.
The council approved the week of May 5 as clean up days.
Councilman Phil Hudson, when asked about the new Community Center being located in the old Mystic Elementary School building, said the kitchen was almost finished. He added that they applied for a grant for a new heating and cooling system. Hudson said they need a new propane tank and two gas lines need to be run inside the building.
Hudson said the plan is to have the work finished by Memorial Day.
Hudson mentioned he would like to see a new parking lot built on the east side of the building.
Hudson addressed the mayor and council with the idea of moving City Hall to the new Community Center.
A suggestion was put out that the city if they moved could sell the current City Hall building and save the city money.
Councilman Terry Whittom said now was not the time to discuss moving City Hall to the new Community Center, to which Councilman Clark agreed. The idea floated was to have a town hall meeting to allow Mystic residents an opportunity to voice their opinions.
Members of the Mystic City Council include Terry Whittom, Jim Hatfield, Phil Hudson, John Hatfield and Carl Clark. The mayor is Frankie Belzer.
