Ten year state prison sentence for former Seymour teachers aide

CENTERVILLE — A former independent teachers aide with the Seymour Community School District in Wayne County was sentenced to state prison after being convicted on two sex-related criminal offenses.

Gary Richard Miller, 26, of Seymour, originally charged with one count of third degree sexual abuse, class C felony and one count of sexual exploitation by a school employee, class D felony, entered a negotiated, voluntary guilty plea and had the greater felony charge reduced.

Judge Gary G. Kimes in Wayne County Sept. 11 sentenced Miller to 10 years in state prison on two counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee with both prison terms to run concurrently. The judge also ordered Miller to 10 years supervision by IDC, five years electronic monitoring and registration with the Iowa Sex Offender registry following release from prison.

Miller owes $3,009.90 for various charges related to the state's prosecution of the criminal charges.

According to the Seymour Community School District web site listing for the school year 2011-2012,  Miller was named as a support staff, independent aide.

The Wayne County Sheriff's office press release dated Jan. 23, 2012 said the arrest and alleged charges were a result of "an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old female"

The offense date of the alleged sexual criminal infractions were Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012.
