Centerville Police Department patrol vehicles now contain emergency medical response bags

CENTERVILLE — Mercy-Centerville's Ambulance Department and the Centerville Police Department have coordinated efforts to provide each of Centerville's patrol cars with their own emergency medical response bags.

In many instances Centerville Police Officers are first to arrive on the scene of medical and or trauma emergencies.  The fully stocked medical bags allow responding officers the opportunity to provide immediate basic medical assistance to patients prior to the ambulance's arrival.

The Centerville Police Department recently purchased the medical bags after Mercy Ambulance agreed to stock each of the bags with the necessary medical supplies and equipment.  Mercy Ambulance also agreed to continually replenish each of the bags at no cost to the police department in the event that medical supplies are utilized.

Each member of the Centerville Police Department has received advanced first aide training while attending the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, and continually receives updated training in CPR and first aide. Mercy Ambulance and the Centerville Police Department take great pride and satisfaction in maintaining their excellent working relationship with each other so that they can provide the best care possible for the citizens of Centerville and Appanoose County.
