The Iowa Association of Business and Industry Foundation Monday announced that 39 Iowans graduated from the renowned Leadership Iowa program during the recent annual ABI Taking Care of Business Conference in Cedar Rapids.
Tod Faris, Appanoose Economic Development Corporation executive director, graduated as part of the 2013-14 Leadership Iowa class.
Leadership Iowa has been the state’s premier issues-awareness program for 32 years. The program is designed to instill passion in current and emerging leaders while fostering a high level of civic engagement. The 2013-14 class attended an integrated series of monthly two-day sessions from October through June at various locations throughout Iowa. They learned from experts about economic development; education; government; Iowa’s role in global innovation; agriculture and renewable fuels; and healthcare and wellness.
“ABI and the ABI Foundation proudly present the Leadership Iowa program because each of the past 32 years we’ve identified many of our state’s best leaders and helped to equip them with the knowledge and tools to make a difference in our state,” said Mike Ralston, ABI president and a 1991 graduate of Leadership Iowa.
Since its inception in 1982, Leadership Iowa has graduated more than 1,000 individuals from both the private and public sector, representing each geographical region of Iowa. Each year, approximately 40 talented individuals are selected from large applicant pool based on achieving the best balance of qualified candidates for a particular year.
The ABI Foundation’s mission is to build partnerships between business, education and communities. As a nonprofit organization created by Iowa ABI, the foundation also provides resources and forms that develop professional and personal responsibility and leadership for our communities and our state. ABI is currently comprised of approximately 1,400 Iowa members of all types and sizes in all 99 counties employing more than 310,000 Iowans.
