Honey Creek Resort State Park has been announced as the recipient of the 2014 Iowa Recycling Award winner in the Best Government Recycling Program category.
A press release from the Iowa Recycling Association describes Honey Creek as “more than just a vacation spot, Honey Creek Resort is committed to maintaining and improving that setting which draws 200,000 visitors annually.”
According to the association, Honey Creek Resort has put in place several eco-friendly and sustainable practices, including aggressively managing energy and water usage, reducing waste, providing an active recycling program campus-wide and a food composting program.
The press release goes on to say that the waste stream of Honey Creek Resort “is on target to show a forty percent reduction this fiscal year in comparison to 2013. Honey Creek Resort has continued to lead by example to the local and state communities as a model of sustainability and continues to outpace its peers in the industry.”
“It is an honor to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of these community and industry leaders,” said Yvette Clapp, president of Iowa Recycling Association Board of Directors. “The award winning programs and facilities contribute to a healthier economy and environment and serve as models of sustainability to other businesses and organizations.”
