---- — The Centerville FFA Chapter attended a “Greenhand” Fire-Up day hosted by the Indianola FFA Chapter on Oct. 17 to engage young members in a hands-on-manner to help them realize the potential they have for success in the FFA organization. Those attending were FFA Advisor Elizabeth Gaskins and the following FFA members: Derrick Wray, Josh Barber, Bailee Cox, Makayla Bauer, Morgan Duley, Danielle Shondel, Dugan Oden, Curtis Brown, Mathew Plum, Tanner Swarts and Karson Gonnerman.

This event helps encourage members to step outside their comfort zone, promotes teamwork and generates plans for a Supervised Agricultural Experience.

Members learn about the FFA creed, mission, motto, salute, the meaning of the FFA emblem and colors and an understanding of the FFA Code of Ethics and proper use of the FFA jacket.

Members are given a demonstration and understanding of the history of the organization, the chapter constitution and bylaws and the chapter program of activities, access the official FFA manual and the official FFA Student Handbook and instructions for submitting an application for the Greenhand FFA Degree.

The Greenhands came away with a greater understanding of the vital role they play in making their chapter successful.
