Centerville City Council

The Centerville City Council will meet Monday, Aug, 5 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Items on the agenda include approval of July 15 regular meeting minutes, approval of July 17 special meeting minutes, approval of June 20 Historic Preservation Commission meeting minutes, approval of June 18 Appanoose County COmmunity Railroad Board of Director meeting minutes, approval of cigarette/tobacco permit for Happy Hookah, approval of bills, department reports for Public Safety, Police, Fire, Code Compliance and Animal Control, Joyce Bieber — request to place Freedom Rock on Courthouse lawn, Mile Gill — request to use the council chambers for a Cribbage tournament on Pancake Day (9/28), Nancy Huisman, — recommendation from the Park Board and Park Committee to execute agreement with FEH for preparation and master plans, conceptual drawings and budget projections for he parks, Nancy Huisman — update of Safe Routes to School Project, approve addendum No. 1 to the professional services agreement for the SRTS project and authorize Mayor (pro-rem) to execute said addendum, approve amendment to the 28E agreement between the city of Centerville and the Appanoose County Conservation Board regarding the management of land adjacent to the Centerville Reservoir, approve agreement with Centerville School District for a School Resource Officer, first reading of Ord. No. 1303 reducing sewer surcharge based on local option sales tax, Res. No. 2013-3217 relating to fees and charges in the Shanahan Addition of Oakland Cemetery, Res. No. 2013-3218 regarding the Main Street Iowa Program, reports, other business, audience questions and comments.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
