CENTERVILLE — The Centerville School Board appointed Steve Hoch to replace resigning member Tom Lange in a 5-1 vote during a special meeting Monday evening.
The board had four candidates apply to complete the rest of Lange’s term. They were Hoch, a former board member, Angela Ocker, who received the third highest amount of votes in the last school board election, Stacy Knapp and Dan Hargrave.
The board thought all of the applicants would be qualified to fill the position and to help make the decision, each board member shared their top two choices out of the four candidates. All candidates received support from at least one board member, but Hoch was the first or second choice of five members of the board, leading to a motion to appoint him. He was approved with board member Michelle Moore voting against.
Hoch was not present to be sworn in.
In other business the board approved employment contracts for several people. Anna Krull, Penny Exline, Cassidy Serna and Destry Walker were approved as special education aides, Tiffany Rose was approved as a preschool custodian and Siara Thompson was approved as a kindergarten aide. Matt Harnisch, Todd Mihalovich and Matt Johnson were approved as assistant football coaches.
In teaching positions, Tyler Morgan was approved as the new Lakeview instrumental music teacher, replacing Mark Taylor, who moved to the Howar Junior High instrumental music teaching position. Joy Jones was approved to replace Anthony Jahr as a science teacher at Centerville High School and Paula Gray was approved to replace Kim Mitchell at Howar Junior High in a half-time position.
Contracts for Julie Caraccio, Stephanie McCann and Courtney Hawkins were also approved. The three will be teachers at Lakeview Elementary.
A transfer for Brad Warren from Lakeview Elementary to the Appanoose County High School was tabled. Warren will be replacing Felicia Starcevich, who will be transferring to Centerville High School. Since Starcevich’s transfer was not final, they could not approve Warren’s contract yet, since two people can not hold the same position.
