Gambling funds available for Appanoose County non-profits

CENTERVILLE — The Appanoose County Community Fund Committee is once again accepting applications for grants to fund community projects in Appanoose County.

The Appanoose County Community Fund Committee has been established to meet the requirements of the County Endowment Fund established by the Iowa Legislature in 2005.   Funds for the program come from state wide gambling revenues.

Any qualified nonprofit in Appanoose County is eligible to apply.   Applications can be obtained on-line at www.appanoosecounty.org and clicking “Appanoose County Community Fund” tab.  

Completed applications must be returned to: AEDC, 101 W. Van Buren St. Ste 1, Centerville, Iowa 52544. The deadline for applications is 3 p.m.  May 18.

The committee will distribute over $88,000 during 2012 to nonprofit organizations in Appanoose County to fund community projects. The awards will be presented in July.

Since the fund was established in 2006, over $445,000 has been distributed to 107 nonprofit groups in Appanoose County.

The 2012 committee members are: Bob Pontious, Jean Morrison, Richard Gordon, Paul Witt, John Probasco, Tod Faris and Larry Bettis.
