AmeriCorps giving to less fortunate

The Daily Iowegian

---- — The AmeriCorps program students at Howar Junior High and Centerville High School worked together on a service learning project to give back for November.

Due to the loss of so many people in the community recently and the fact that one was the father of one of the AmeriCorps students, the kids felt the need to give back.

The project was called The Comfort Pillow project for Blank Children's Hospital. Through the month of November, AmeriCorps kids at the high school and junior high tied, sewed and stuffed pillows. In the end, 70 pillows were delivered to Blank on Monday, Nov. 25 to be passed out to the children there.

While there, the kids were told about the special needs of kids in the hospital, whether they are there for an hour or for an extended stay.

The students were so pleased with their efforts and the benefits that they plan on continuing the project through the year. They would like to deliver more pillows to local hospitals and local senior centers.

To do this they are asking for donations of unused fabric and pillow stuffing. Fleece is preferred but they will accept any kind of fabric.
