AmeriCorps program adopts Marine unit

CENTERVILLE — The high school AmeriCorps program has begun its project for November called “Operation Ooh-Rah!“

The program has adopted a Marine active duty unit that is currently deployed to Afghanistan from California.

AmeriCorps is asking the kids in the high school in conjunction with their English classes to write letters to send to these units in care packages that will be put together for them.

AmeriCorps is also encouraging students to provide new healthcare items, gloves, socks and magazines for them as well.

The Marines provided the high school with a Toys for Tots drop off box so the students may continue their service project through the holiday season.

New unwrapped toys are requested for Toys for Tots.

Any help that the community would like to give to the project would be greatly appreciated.

The Toys for Tots program will give its donation directly to Operation Santa and any other group requesting it from them.
