---- — Sixty eight women took part in Mercy’s first Mamm and Glam event held last Saturday morning.
More importantly, the event resulted in 23 women scheduling a mammogram – some for the first time and some who had not been screened for quite some time. Several women were also referred to the hospital’s care for yourself program, a federal grant program that provides breast and cervical cancer screening for uninsured and underinsured women.
The women were educated about breast cancer early detection and were shown the difference between what a mammogram looks like on a digital image compared to previous imaging technology. They also toured the women’s suite at Mercy, where they can conveniently get their digital mammogram and bone density screening all in one room.
The women were also pampered with mini manicures and chair massages and enjoyed special mammogram treats and pastries prepared just for the occasion. Organizers were pleased with the success of the event and plan to offer it again next year.
