Tea, cookies and Felicity.
For the 21 young girls who came to the Drake Public Library in Centerville Saturday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. it was not only an opportunity to partake in tea and cookies but it was also an opportunity to be the first one to check out Felicity.
Felicity is an American Girl Doll the Friends of the Drake Public Library purchased for the library along with reading materials they will have available for patrons to check out. The American Girl Doll will be treated like any other library item and can be checked out for two weeks at a time.
Drake Public Library Director Jami Livingston said one of the girls who attended Saturday will be chosen to be the first one to check out Felicity.
Livingston said American Girl Dolls are very collectible, very expensive and each one has an unique story.
Livingston said she was surprised with the large turnout. She said the library may do more tea parties in the future.
Livingston said Felicity will be available for checkout. She said anyone who is interested should come to the library and get on the list.
She said they would add additional American Girl Dolls if they get financial donations or an owner of an American Girl Doll wanted to make a donation.
Felicity was introduced in 1991 as a colonial girl from 1774 whose full name is Felicity Merriman.
When American Girl Dolls first came out in 1986, each one cost $95. Today some cost as much as $180.
