CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Development Initiative held their first event Saturday evening at the Cincinnati Community Center. The soup supper and bake sale welcomed a large crowd beginning at 6 p.m.

The group was organized by Lindsey Sivetts-Herteen, Matt Herteen and Hailey Sivetts to benefit the city of Cincinnati and the surrounding area. Their first area of focus will be the Cincinnati Volunteer Fire Department. Currently the group is raising money to help the department become well equipped and able to independently respond to calls.

CDI is currently planning several more events for the spring and summer. On Saturday, April 5 there will be a free Easter egg hunt held in the city park from 10-11 a.m. CDI members will be selling refreshments during the hunt. The group is then planning a community rummage sale to be held Saturday, April 12 at the Cincinnati Community Center. It is free to be part of the event, but those who participate will be required to donate at least 25 percent of their proceeds to the Cincinnati Volunteer Fire Department. Anyone interested in participating may contact Marcia Seddon at (641) 658-2945.

For summer the group is also planning a Fireman’s Day for Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day will begin with a car show at 10 a.m. Judging will be held in the afternoon, with trophies being given out for Best of Show, Best Paint and Firefighter’s Kid’s Choice. Prizes will be awarded to all participants. Bingo will also be held from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. There will be a kid’s carnival and bounce house available all day and a silent auction will also be held from 10 a.m. until items are awarded at 1:30 p.m. Two cake walks will be held from 11-11:30 a.m. and from 1-1:30 p.m. and food will be served all day. Raffle tickets for a 50/50 drawing will also be sold all day with the drawing held at 2 p.m.

CDI is actively looking to expand and get more volunteers to help with future events. The group has a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cincydevelopmentinitiative.
