Trivia Night 3 expands to two nights

The Daily Iowegian

---- — The Appanoose County Historical Society’s first Trivia Night in April of last year had 160 people pack the Majestic Ballroom for more than three hours of trivia entertainment.

Because the first Trivia Night was so popular, a second Trivia Night was held in November of 2013 and it was a sellout. Three days after Trivia Night 2 was over, all of the tables for Trivia Night 3, planned for this April, had been reserved.

So, the Historical Society in an effort to accommodate more players, expanded Trivia Night 3 to be a two night event, Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12. Each night’s capacity is 160 people.

“So, if you have wanted to come to Trivia Night but couldn’t get in, here’s your chance – there are openings,” Lisa Eddy, curator of the Appanoose County Historical Coal Mining Museum, said. “However, if you’re already signed up for one night, you can’t be signed up for the other.”

Here’s how Trivia Night works. There are 100 questions – 10 questions from 10 different categories ranging from music to movies, science to slogans, candy to pasta. And one category is about Appanoose County history.

There are 16 teams of 10 people. Each team picks a name like “The Smartinins,” “Smart Peepel” and the reigning champs, “The Intrepids.”

“The atmosphere is like a party – which is exactly what happens at each table,” Eddy said. “The team members each bring food for their own table to snack on during the evening. All of the tables in the ballroom are full of crock pots, pizzas and platters of food. They barely have room for their answer sheet at each table.”

After each round the leader board is updated and the team with the highest score takes home a Trivia trophy and $150. The second place team gets a $75 prize.

“The former traveling trophy, which is on display at Owl Pharmacy, will be taken out of service in favor of trophies that the teams can keep,” Eddy said.

To sign up a team of 10 for $150 or to fill one of 10 chairs at a table reserved for individuals at $15 apiece for Trivia Night 3, call Eddy at (641) 895-6323.
