One item on the agenda for the Centerville City Council meeting Monday night has the council voting to make an offer to purchase for $1 from the state of Iowa Armory Board the vacant Iowa Army National Guard Armory on Dewey Road.
The National Guard closed the armory on Jan. 24.
According to a Daily Iowegian story published on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1992, members of Centerville's 224th Engineer Battalion completed their move into the new armory on Sept. 12-13 of that year. The story listed the new facility as 42,000 square-feet situated on 15 acres of land.
