The Daily Iowegian

---- — Jan. 10, 1944: In Italy, the 34th's Infantry assignment had changed. Centerville's men in Company G were now fighting in street-by-street, hand-to-hand, house-to-house, grenade-and-bayonet combat with Germans in central Italy's Liri Valley. The men knew they were approaching the dreaded target of Monte Cassino. That assignment would come in another 15 days. (450)
