CENTERVILLE — The Centerville School Board met Monday, Sept. 24 to hold their annual meeting and also an organizational/regular meeting. Board member Jeri Pershy was absent.

During the annual meeting the board was introduced to new high school social studies teacher, Tim Roush. They also reviewed and approved the Local Education Agency's Certified Annual Report, the Local Education Agency's Special Education Supplement and the Transportation Annual Reports. The board then adjourned to the regular/organizational meeting.

During the regular/organizational meeting, the board appointed Nick Hindley as president and Rich Roos as vice president. Board secretary Linda Henderson administered the oath of office to both.

The board then approved the schedule of 2012--2013 meeting dates. There was more discussion on the instructional support levy with most of the board leaning towards renewing it at the same rate for one year.

Employment contracts were approved for Janee Carson as kindergarten aide at Garfield Elementary, Helen Hawk as a non-contracted substitute server assistant at Central Elementary and Kayla Canny as a non-contracted substitute server assistant.

Board members were then appointed to committees, including County Conference Board, Centerville Foundation Board of Directors, Teacher Negotiations Committee, Administrative Salary Committee, Support Staff Committee, School Improvement Committee, ADLM Empowerment Board and Superintendent Evaluation Committee.

Rick Engel was appointed as board attorney and legal counsel and superintendent Tony Ryan was appointed as chief negotiator.

Several board members indicated interest in attending the Iowa Association of School Boards Convention in November and the board also considered dates to hold their annual legislative dinner meeting. They decided to look into Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. with an alternate option of Monday, Dec. 3.

The board then approved sports official's contracts and approved payment of invoices before adjourning.
