---- — The Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville will host its 25th annual free Christmas Day dinner this Wednesday.

The entire community is invited to enjoy turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, vegetables, rolls, salads, homemade pies, other desserts and beverages.

If you cannot make it to the church to eat, then call the church at (641) 856-8061 to arrange to have your meal delivered to your home starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Or go to the Drake Avenue Christian Church at 303 Drake Avenue in Centerville and enjoy the meal with others in the community. Meals will be served at the church starting at 12 p.m. up until they run out of food.

The Rev. Sara Galindo said the free meal is open to anyone and is a wonderful way to spend a part of your Christmas day.

“A lot of folks come just because it’s a place they can be with family, bring the whole family,” Galindo said. “They can eat there alone. They can eat with friends. I think it’s just as much about a place people can be together.”

Feeding as many as 300 people can require a lot of volunteers and donation.

Galindo encouraged anyone in the community who would like to help with the meal to call the church at (641) 856-8061 to volunteer or donate.

“It’s a great way to spend part of your Christmas day helping others,” Galindo said.

Galindo credited the longevity of the Christmas Day dinner by citing the volunteer’s commitment and the community need.

“There’s just a lot of people who have found a great joy in doing something folks needed and are glad to continue to see it happen,” Galindo said.

The meal is free but donations will be gladly accepted.
